British enterprise engaged in the retail sale of clothing. The origins of the company date back to 1864 when Joseph Hepworth opened in Leeds tailor shop under the name of J Hepworth & Son. In 1981 the company bought a chain of stores Kendalls, and a year later opened the first store under the brand Next. In 1986 the company name was changed from J Hepworth & Son on Next plc.
